Assistant Layer Manager

Job Summary:

Oversee all functions of the layer site including but not limited to:  ensuring a safe work environment, managing employees and cost center’s financial objectives.   Perform all layer site positions when necessary.  Work in conjunction with human resources on employee issues.  Schedule and distribute production information.  On call position and required to live within 15 minutes of Layer site.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overall care of birds

  • Responsible for overall management of layer site and employees

  • Monitor computer for all house vitals (water, air, feed)

  • Manage and schedule bird crew activities

  • Accountable for cost center’s financial objectives and reporting

  • Report all layer site activity to company management

  • Manage employee performance, employee meetings and work with human resources, as appropriate

  • Monitor and follow all OSHA safety regulations and procedures

  • Perform all layer house positions when necessary

  • Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity and sustained certification of the SQF system.

  • Responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring.

  • Responsible for following and enforcing procedures outlined in the Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality Plan and any other programs that support the SQF system and other 3rd party audits.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Awareness and knowledge of surroundings in relation to climate, atmosphere and equipment

  • Shower In (REI provides clothing and footwear)

  • Husbandry Skills-Maintaining proper feed, water, climate and living conditions in building

  • Mechanical, electrical, metal working and plumbing knowledge

  • Ability to operate power tools and equipment safely

  • Ability to read, understand and effectively communicate information through writing and speaking so others will understand

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Required to live within 15 minutes of layer site

  • On call duties to include nights and weekends

  • Answer alarms

  • Public relation skills and phone etiquette

  • Hand/Eye/Foot Coordination

  • Mathematical Skills:  Logical/Analytical, Percentages, Fractions, Moderate Algebra

  • Advanced English: fluent in: speaking, reading and writing
